Anti Wrinkle Treatments

Further Information: Anti-Wrinkle Treatments

Our anti-wrinkle treatments are designed to help you achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, allowing us to create a balanced, rejuvenated and individualised authentic look.

Here’s everything you need to know about the treatment process, the products we use, and what to expect:

How Does It Work?

Anti-wrinkle treatments involve the use of Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified protein (produced by the Clostridium Botulinum Bacterium) that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles. By reducing muscle activity, this treatment smooths out dynamic wrinkles (caused by facial expressions) and helps prevent the formation of deeper lines over time.

Botulinum Toxin Type A has been widely used in medical and cosmetic treatments for decades, and its safety and efficacy are well-documented when administered by trained professionals.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Our treatments are highly effective for addressing common concerns, including:

  • Frown lines (between the eyebrows)

  • Forehead lines

  • Crow’s feet (around the eyes)

What to Expect During the Appointment

Consultation:

We’ll start with an initial personalised consultation to assess your skin, understand your goals, and discuss your medical history to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for treatment.

Following this and prescribing of your individualised treatment and further appointment will be made for the administration of the Toxin. Nicky works in collaboration with reputable pharmacies and

The Procedure:

  • The treatment itself is quick and minimally invasive, usually taking 10-20 minutes.

  • Using ultra-fine needles, small, precise amounts of Botulinum Toxin Type A are injected into targeted muscles. Most clients describe the sensation as a slight pinch or pressure.

Action of Toxin on the Nerve:

  • Blocks nerve signals to muscles: Botulinum Toxin Type A interrupts communication between nerves and targeted muscles.

  • Prevents acetylcholine release: The toxin inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction.

  • Relaxes the muscle: Without acetylcholine, the muscle remains in a relaxed state, reducing dynamic wrinkles.

  • Temporary effect: The nerve endings gradually regenerate over 3-4 months, restoring muscle activity.

Aftercare Advice:

  • To ensure the best results, we’ll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions. These may include:

  • Avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, or lying flat for 4-6 hours after treatment.

  • Refraining from rubbing or massaging the treated areas.

When Will I See Results?

You may notice a softening of fine lines and wrinkles within 3-5 days, with full results developing over 10-14 days. The effects typically last 3-4 months, after which follow-up treatments are recommended to maintain results.  This vary for each individual.

We generally require you to attend a follow up appointment 2-3 weeks after the initial treatment, where you will be reviewed by your aesthetic practitioner, Nicky. Any additional toxin needed at this appointment is included in the original cost. After this 2 week period any further treatment will be at the cost of the client.

Deep lines will be softened, but you may need several treatments to reach your required effect and optimum results are seen.

Botulinum toxin treatments can typically be carried out every 3-4 months, depending on individual factors such as:

  • How long the effects last: Most treatments provide results for 3-4 months, after which muscle activity gradually returns.

  • Personal goals: Some clients may prefer to schedule treatments more frequently to maintain a consistently smooth appearance, while others may wait longer.

  • Muscle strength and activity: Individuals with stronger facial muscles may notice results wearing off slightly faster.

It’s important to allow adequate time between treatments to prevent overuse and ensure optimal results. During your consultation, we can recommend a personalised treatment plan based on your needs and how your body responds to the toxin.

Are There Any Side Effects?

While anti-wrinkle treatments are considered safe, it’s important to be aware of potential side effects, which are usually mild and temporary. These can include:

  • Redness or swelling at the injection site, which typically resolves within a few hours.

  • Bruising or tenderness at injection site

  • Headaches, which some clients experience for a short time after treatment.

Serious complications are extremely rare when treatments are performed by a qualified practitioner. If you have any concerns, we’re here to support you and answer any questions.

Botulinum Toxin should only be administered by an aesthetic practitioner with the appropriate training, qualification and expertise.

 Who Is This Treatment For?

Anti-wrinkle treatments are suitable for adults looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions. However, they may not be suitable for individuals who are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Allergic to any of the ingredients in the product

  • Living with certain neurological conditions (e.g., myasthenia gravis)

During your consultation, we’ll ensure the treatment is appropriate for your individual needs and goals.

Aftercare Instructions

To achieve the best results, it’s important to follow these aftercare guidelines:

  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours. This helps prevent the product from moving to unintended areas.

  • Stay upright for 4-6 hours after your treatment. Avoid lying down or bending over during this time.

  • Refrain from strenuous exercise and excessive heat exposure (such as saunas, hot tubs, or sunbeds) for 24-48 hours. This helps reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours after treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising.

  • Avoid makeup on the treated areas for the rest of the day to reduce the risk of irritation or infection.

  • Be patient! Results will begin to appear within 3-5 days, with full results visible after 10-14 days.

If you experience any unexpected side effects or have concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us for advice.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, which helps to hydrate and plump the skin. Fillers are commonly used to enhance lips, define cheekbones, soften lines, and restore lost facial volume.

What is hyaluronic acid and how does it work?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the body that plays a crucial role in maintaining skin hydration, elasticity, and volume. It is a powerful humectant, meaning it attracts and retains water—helping the skin stay plump, firm, and youthful.

As we age, our natural production of hyaluronic acid decreases, leading to a loss of volume, fine lines, and wrinkles. Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid work by replenishing this lost hydration and structure, restoring a smoother, more youthful appearance.

How Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Work in the Skin:

✔ Attracts & Retains Moisture – Each molecule of hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, keeping the skin hydrated and supple.
✔ Restores Lost Volume – HA fillers add volume to areas where the skin has thinned due to aging, filling in deep lines and wrinkles.
✔ Enhances Facial Contours – Strategic placement of HA fillers can sculpt and define features like the cheeks, jawline, and chin.
✔ Stimulates Collagen Production – While primarily known for its hydrating properties, hyaluronic acid may also support collagen synthesis, improving skin quality over time.
✔ Gradual & Natural Degradation – Since HA is a naturally occurring substance, the body safely metabolizes it over time, making the effects temporary but reversible if needed.

Hyaluronic acid fillers provide immediate results with a natural-looking enhancement, making them one of the most popular and safe options for facial rejuvenation.

How Are Dermal Fillers Administered?

The treatment is a non-surgical procedure that is quick and minimally invasive, taking around 20-45 minutes. A fine needle or cannula is used to carefully place the filler in targeted areas, enhancing your natural beauty. A numbing cream may be applied beforehand for added comfort. Results are visible  immediately and can last between 6-18 months, depending on individual metabolism and the type of filler used.

At Aesthetic Balance, we offer expertly administered dermal fillers for:

✔ Nasolabial Folds (lines running from the nose to the mouth)
✔ Marionette Lines (lines from the mouth to the chin)
✔ Cheek Enhancement (for added volume and contour)
✔ Jawline Contouring (to define and sculpt the jawline)
✔ Chin Augmentation (to enhance chin projection and balance the profile)

Side Effects & Risks

Dermal fillers are generally safe when administered by a trained professional, but like any procedure, there are potential side effects, including:

✔ Mild swelling and bruising at the injection site
✔ Redness or tenderness
✔ Small lumps that usually settle within a few days
✔ In rare cases, allergic reactions or vascular complications may occur

To minimise risks, ensure your treatment is performed by a qualified practitioner in a safe, clinical setting.

Aftercare Instructions

To achieve the best results and reduce the risk of complications, follow these aftercare guidelines:

✔ Avoid touching or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours
✔ Refrain from strenuous exercise and excessive heat (saunas, hot tubs) for 48 hours
✔ Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol for 24 hours to reduce swelling
✔ Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated for the first night
✔ Use a cold compress to minimize swelling if needed

If you experience persistent swelling, pain, or any unusual symptoms, contact your practitioner immediately.
